Our Critical Care Transfer Process

Veterinary Specialty Services and VSS-West are 24-hour emergency and critical care facilities equipped to handle a variety of emergency cases. If you are transferring a patient to our Critical Care department, we ask that you call ahead if possible so we can request your patient’s medical history and gather the appropriate records to ensure we are prepared for the patient’s arrival.

This is also a valuable opportunity to work closely with you and provide guidance if necessary. We understand that emergencies can happen at any time, and that it may not always be possible to prepare for an emergency transfer. However, we ask that the following information be provided in advance, if mangeable:

  • Patient Description (age, sex, and breed)
  • Name of pet owner
  • Name of pet
  • Brief description of the patient’s existing illness or other health problems
  • Primary reason for this emergency visit
